Counselors in Training (CITs)
The role of a CIT is to assist the summer camp counselors in providing a safe and fun camp experience. Our CIT program is open to students 14 years old and up. CIT hours are from 8:30am to 3:30pm. There is a fee for all CITs to cover training expenses and mentorship (New CITs: $200, 2nd Year Returning CITs: $100, 3rd Year Returning CITs: $75). Applicants must be enthusiastic about camp, enjoy working with children, animals, and the natural environment.
Responsibilities

Interact with campers and assist Counselors with supervision of group

Help Counselors and Senior Staff facilitate activities, hikes, games, crafts, songs, stories

Provide one on one attention to campers who might need some extra help

Assist with camp preparation and clean-up

Serve as a positive role model for the campers

Follow all CIT guidelines and expectations (read here)
Qualifications

Must be at least 14 years old by the week of participation as a CIT (per state requirement)

Must have experience working with children (babysitting, tutoring, etc.)

Willingness to get dirty and work hard in all weather (including summer heat, humidity, and rain)

Must commit to at least two full weeks (Monday-Friday) of camp (doesn't have to be consecutive)

Must commit to one of our mandatory training sessions. Failure to attend a training will result in no longer having the ability to be a CIT during our summer camp season.

Optional volunteer opportunities for CIT's beyond camp:
CIT's also have the opportunity to help at special events, like our summer family s'mores event or tabling at local fairs and festivals. Duties would include basic group management, answering basic questions about WNC, or handing out brochures and information. A WNC educator will be present at tabling events and in charge of any animals. Must have been a CIT for at least 1 week prior to an event to be eligible.
Fee for CITs:
There is a training fee for all CITs. The training fees differ with experience level (see below). Information on how to pay the fee will be sent via email after acceptance into the CIT Program.
New CIT: $200
Returning for 2nd Year CIT: $100
Returning for 3rd Year CIT: $75
