Afterschool Assistant- Part Time

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are interested in environmental topics (Biology, Zoology, Ecology, Environmental Science, etc.) and or education (any age level) to assist our full time educators. The nature center has after school programs for students from Kindergarten all the way through middle school. These programs are seasonal and run in the Winter, Spring, and Fall. The Assistant will help facilitate the program and supervise students while outdoors on and off trails. This is an excellent opportunity for students to gain experience and knowledge that could benefit them in pursuing further studies and careers.

Responsibilities:
•    Supervise and interact with students at all times in forest and wetlands, on and off trails.
•    Assist with behavioral needs of students.
•    Motivate students and encourage mutual support and team-building activities. 
•    Contribute to set-up, break-down, and cleaning of program activities.

Qualifications:
•    Must be 17 years of age or older
•    Interest in the environment and or education
•    Experience working with elementary aged kids and teenagers
•    Enthusiasm for exploring nature with children
•    Comfort working with different animals and in the natural environment
•    Willingness to get dirty
•    Available at least one of the following afternoons: 
Tuesday 3:45-6:15, Wednesday 3:45-6:15,  or Thursday 3:45-6:15
•    Spring Dates: Week of 3/21 through Week of 5/23. 

Pay: $14-16 per hour.

High School Research Projects

Woodcock Nature Center is looking for local high school students who want to do research! This is an excellent opportunity for students looking to gain valuable college resume builders, and developing scientific skills! Do not pass it up if you’re interested in majoring in the field of science!

If you’re interested, send an email to wnc@woodcocknaturecenter.org  and describe the project you might want to do. If you don’t have an idea for a project, but you would like to do one, we can help you zero in on what might work best for you!

High School Senior Internships

We are no longer accepting applications at this time, we are full for 2022!

Woodcock can help you participate in your school’s for-credit senior internship program. We offer a 3 to 4 week work experience that typically begins in mid May and is arranged in partnership with your school. This program gives seniors the opportunity to explore an area of interest outside of their usual class schedule. Our internship is ideal for seniors who are interested in non-profits, environmental science and education as well as outdoor work. Internship projects can include: wetland specimen collecting, program set-up, trail and ground maintenance, wood-chipping, animal care tank maintenance, etc. This is an unpaid internship.

Marketing & Development Internship

Woodcock Nature Center seeks an intern to assist in its small but busy administrative office with a variety of projects, including: donor research and correspondence; marketing projects related to promoting programs events; maintenance of fundraising and email databases; fundraising event support and other clerical tasks. 

This is an excellent opportunity for college students and/or recent college graduates with a background and interest in the environment, nature, education, non-profit administration, marketing and fundraising. Qualified candidates will be independent; organized; possess excellent writing, computer and interpersonal skills and a demonstrated interest in nature; and be enthusiastic and flexible. 

This is an unpaid internship. Two days per week minimum. Approximately 9am to 2pm. Dates and times flexible. Send a letter of interest and resume to Lenore Herbst at
