Wondering what it's like to work at a Nature Center, teach classes, keep a building tidy, feed our animals and still manage to squeak in a few emails? We asked Ms. Jen (Bradshaw), Woodcock's long-time Early Childhood Manager & Animal Curator, to compile a list of all the things done on a typical Tuesday. Check this out!

  • Walk through the nature center to check on every animal — something I’ve done every day for 13 years!

  • Check emails.

  • Change water dishes, make salads, and feed proteins to the reptiles and amphibians.

  • Thaw frozen feeder rats to feed the birds of prey later.

  • Set up for a morning class for preschoolers and their caregivers: toys and blocks, coloring sheets, and laminated owl name tags on the tree for the kids to move around.

  • Teach!

  • Oops… clean up a major paint spill, put away glue sticks, and empty the garbage.

  • Check and respond to emails (and hopefully eat lunch).

  • Head out onto the trails to place scavenger hunt items for the older class in the afternoon.

  • Prep supplies and crafts for the afternoon class of 3–5-year-olds.

  • Teach!

  • Clean up, wash brushes, and sweep the floor.

  • Leave work feeling like I’ve just been to battle — completely exhausted, but also fulfilled and smiling, because oh, how I love my littles.
