Visiting on Saturday 9/8 during tree work
Farewell to the White Pines...
This weekend we say goodbye to two old friends: the 100+ foot White Pines located in front of the staff house at Woodcock Nature Center.
One of these trees lost an enormous limb during a winter storm which destroyed a portion of our playground and fence. With age, White Pines especially become soft, drop branches and may eventually fall completely. Unfortunately, it is unsafe for these trees to remain standing. With the help of the town of Ridgefield and Weston Arborists, both trees will be removed this Saturday.
If you were planning to visit us on Saturday, please park at the lower parking lot closest to Deer Run Road as there will be heavy equipment near the staff house and bird enclosures (don't worry, Barred Owl Clack, whose enclosure sits below the pines, will be moved until it's safe to return!) The playground area will also be closed to the public.
Staff and volunteers work hard year-round to make our grounds safe and accessible. We hope you will consider making a donation to support Woodcock Nature Center's ongoing tree, trail and property care (click here).
We apologize for any inconvenience this weekend and thank you for your support!
